24 people, mostly women and children, were, on Monday, March
5, killed in a fresh crisis at Omusu Edimoga in Okpokwu Local Government
Area of Benue state.
The council chairman, Olofu Ogwuche, stated this while conducting
state governor, Samuel Ortom, round the affected community on Tuesday,
March 6.
The governor and members of state security council had visited Omusu
Edimoga for an on-the-spot assessment, Punch reports. Ogwuche said the
herdsmen had reported to the council the loss of their cows some
kilometers from the affected village.
He said he was already mediating in the crisis when report got to him
that the herdsmen had invaded the village and killed some people.
The herdsmen were said to have invaded the community between 2pm and
3pm on Monday, allegedly killing some children who were returning from
school.
Ogwuche said: “It was on Monday that police came to inform me that
herdsmen reported that people of Omusu Edimoga village had rustled their
cows.
“When I heard this, I started mediating over the issue, during which I
received information that herdsmen had invaded the community.
“Immediately I got the report, I rushed down, and with the help of
the police, we were able to recover 17 corpses and took them to the
mortuary at the General Hospital in Okpoga.
“This morning (Tuesday), when we came here, we recovered the body of
six persons and they have also been taken to the mortuary. “But as we
were moving around, the corpse of an 11-year-old girl was also
recovered.
“So, in all, 24 persons had died, and some are still missing.”
Governor Ortom condemned the attack, and accused herdsmen of “always
taking the law into their own hands.”
“They reported the case of rustling, but instead of waiting for the
outcome of Police investigation, they came and killed 24 people in a
day.
It is senseless. “People in Omusu Edimoga community do not understand
cow language; so, no one here rustles their cow, it is the same Fulani
men that are rustling their fellows’ cows.
“We cannot continue with these senseless killings; that is why we
came out with the law which is aimed to protect everyone. “When Sharia
law was introduced in Zamfara State, no one violated the law.
Let security men do their job and arrest the people.” The governor
appealed to the people not to take the law into their hands. Earlier,
Benue state command spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, had claimed that 16
people, including a herdsman were killed.
Yamu in a statement made available to Punch on Tuesday, March 6, said
that the attack was a reprisal after some youths in the community went
berserk and attacked herdsmen and killed some cows. The statement read:-
“We received information from the security adviser of
Okpokwu local government that some irate youths from Omutu engaged some
herdsmen in a fight, maiming some cows while two herdsmen were missing.
“A peace meeting was immediately convened by the council chairman and
the head of Fulani community in the area while a police search party
went in search of the two missing herdsmen, one of whom was found dead.”
“Unfortunately, as the search and peace meeting were ongoing, some
herdsmen went on a rampage, hacking 15 persons – mostly women and
children, to death while some houses were set ablaze.”
The police spokesman said four suspects had been arrested in
connection with the killings, adding that ‘extensive’ patrol of the
community was ongoing and to be reinforced by special forces.
Ghanaian Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale was on Sunday arrested by Ghana Police Service for assaulting a police officer.
Over the weekend, a viral video of the controversial musician in a
heated verbal brawl with a police officer, who had apparently stopped an
unregistered Range Rover SUV was shared.
The Range Rover with no number plate belonged to Shatta Wale but was
being driven by another person. Upon arriving at the place after being
called, Shatta Wale verbally assaulted the police officer in charge and
drove off in another unregistered car
This necessitated his arrest, DSP Buckman confirmed to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.
She said “Shatta Wale was picked up by the police on Sunday and granted enquiry bail.
“It wasn’t just unregistered, it had no number plate at all, which goes against our laws.
“In an attempt for the policeman to ask questions…Shatta Wale
assaulted the police officer and also exhibited insulting behaviour.
Because of that, he was arrested on Sunday and he’s been granted police
enquiry bail to reappear at the police station this morning.”
According to her, assault does not only consist of a physical battery
but insults as well, especially to an officer of the law carrying out
his official duties.
“If you look at Act 29 [of the Criminal Code 1960], a person does an
act of assault where the intent is to lead to harm or cause any other
event that will lead to harm,” she said.
“It is an offence for anyone to drive a vehicle with no number plate at all.
“Every vehicle owner must either possess the normal registration
plate or an interim one (DV or DP), she said stressing “nobody can drive
a vehicle in this country without any form of registration, no way!?”

Award winning Nigerian musician, Davido has begin to show his philanthropist nature by giving back.
Davido, on Saturday, just before performing at his concert visited a
music school in Rwanda, announcing to them that he’d be donating $5000
to their education, and gifted them all free tickets to his concert
later in the day.
The musician shared a video of himself during his visit on twitter. Davido also performed live for the students.
Davido is currently on a 30 billion tour, after his 30 billion
concert, set to visit between 28 – 30 different locations across,
Africa, South Africa and Europe.
Veteran juju musician, Sir Shina Peters has opened up about
his relationship with hi family and his famous son, Clarence Peters who
is a talented music video director.
According to Shina Peters, his son is big but being the father, he is bigger.
He made this pronouncement in an interview with Sunday Scoop and he
went further to boast of the fact that he is the only veteran musician
in Nigeria who is legally married to just one woman.
He said:
“You can call me a ladies’ man but I did things with
caution. Do you know that I am the only artiste of my generation who is
legally married to only one woman till date? My wife still stays with
me.
There is no way you would be at the peak of your career without the support of women.
Getting married was a miracle. In those days, even before I finished a

Choosing my wife was destiny; it was not my making or hers. We were

or her. If not for my profession, I would have loved to have a wife and
